I love my job, I love my studio, the awesome newborn babies, children and families that I get to meet and photograph each year, it's a privalage to be part of recording their lives. Being a photographer can also be quite a solitary job so when the opportunity to meet up with other photographers comes along I jump at the chance if I can and this week I'm off up to the 'big smoke' for the SWPP (Society of Wedding and Portrait Photographers) convention and I can't wait!
I will be meeting up with friends from all over the uk, photographers I've met through training and Facebook groups, I'm prepared for late nights, LOTS of talking, laughing and socialising.......it could get messy but it will be great fun. It's times like these that you can swap ideas, listen to things that get my creative brain going into over-drive, get the kick up the back-side I probably need to implement good business plans and I love it! In an industry that contains some very large egos I can hand on heart say that the people I have met have been wonderful and I now count them as really good friends.
It's also a chance to book into classes and see some of my heroes in action, listen to their processes and how they achieve the stunning images that puts them at the very top of their game in the photography industry. This year I've managed to get a 'golden ticket' to see portrait photographer Sue Bryce. She's a New Zealander now living and working in LA where she runs a hugely successful business and she's one of my idols! Her work is simply stunning, her portraits of women are incredible, from the way she poses them to the way she lights them. They're soft yet empowering and strong and I want some of her genius to rub off on me so I'll be soaking up every ounce of information from the day I spend in her class that I can!
Can you tell I'm excited?
Look out London, here I come!
