I cannot imagine living somewhere that wasn't near water or the sea.
I'm very lucky to live in a very beautiful part of the country, Fowey, Cornwall and it takes me 5 minutes to walk to my nearest beach or view of the sea. My family history with this town goes back to the 15th century and although I wasn't brought up here we spent every single holiday & half term staying with my Grandparents, their house was full with me & my brother, my cousins & Aunts & Uncles (as we got bigger we spilled into a big tent in the garden!)
The days I loved the best ……. we'd all be sitting round the breakfast table and either my Mum or one of my two Aunts would say that today was a 'Memory Making Day' and off we'd go with huge picnics packed and spend the day on the boat catching mackerel, or damming up little streams on a beach or hunting for Heffalumps & Woozles in the woods…… as a child it was magical and as an adult looking back at those memories now that my mum has passed away its utterly priceless.
I chose to raise my three children in Fowey and have tried to create the same magic that I remember, its not always possible, life gets in the way, and as they've got older (they're now 20, 16 & 15) they don't always want to spend time with me and thats the way it should be but this week I took my daughter and her friend out on the boat for a picnic round at one of our favourite beaches and I was almost overwhelmed with my own memories at the same time as making new ones with her
