I live in Fowey, in my opinion one of the loveliest coastal towns in Cornwall, with my family and like so many towns and cities we had a weekend of Christmas festivities at the start of December.
The celebrations begin on the Friday night when Father Christmas arrives. We're a town with a beautiful harbour so naturally he comes by boat, escorted by our Town Crier and the fabulous Fowey Town Band dressed as elves!
There were carol singers to get us in the mood and Micheal the Town Crier who has been our Crier for over 30 years came along to keep order!
Once Father Christmas lands he makes his way up the pontoon to the street where he's met by families and very excited children and from here he makes his way to the town centre with everyone following him Pied Piper style with his elves playing their own unique 'music'!
Once through the town Father Christmas arrives outside the church, the Christmas lights get turned on and children are rewarded with sweets from him
Some of the shops stay open for late night shopping and all of them have beautiful festive windows, it's a really lovely atmosphere and this year we had a gorgeous cold but clear night. The church of St Fimbarrus is in the middle of town and the main path is lined with illuminated Christmas trees, sponsored by local businesses and it's such a beautiful centrepiece for the towns festive lights.
Happy Christmas and a very happy New Year!
